Punk Sentimental-JEAN PAUL GAULTIER

Jean Paul Gaultier is one of my favorite designers so I was thrilled to discover the new biography Jean Paul Gaultier Punk Sentimental by Elizabeth Gouslan.
Only available in french at the moment so I guess that I'll have to stick to my New Year's resolution and learn to read french better and of course find more vintage collectables by him.
The gorgeous pieces above used to be mine.
You'll find the book on
www.amazon.fr and more of my Jean Paul Gaultier pieces in the galleries at www.jeannesuica.com

and the Answer is...MAISON MARTIN MARIGELA

an the answer is: Maison Martin Margiela

Friday's top is from 2008 and created by hand using pieces of reflective squares similar to what you find on a disco ball and retails for 7,560 euros.

The broken record dress (one of my favorites)
Autumn-Winter 2008 collection
Crepe silk decorated with discs 33 and 45 lps. The discs were cut and then heated and molded to fit body shape. This took 33 hours to create and retails for 5,625 euros.

The dress is made from vintage buttons with embroidery on a silk dress to create a pattern effect of pixels. Two rectangular pieces of 100% silk cloth are assembled to form the dress. The front is embroidered and embellished with various pearl buttons, metal and plastic to form the mouth. This took 25 hours to create and retails for 4,650 euros.

I Hate Snakes-VINTAGE SKINS

I hate snakes. I'm terrified of them but love snakeskin accessories.
Last year I ended up with some vintage alligator and snakeskin bags and started doing some research on line and found this fabulous site www.vintageskins.com
Above is just a tiny sample from their snakeskin collection. They also carry lizard, crocodile and alligator bags.
Not only do they have the best collection of bags that I've ever seen but also an informative section on understanding exotic skins types, skin care and a guide to buying vintage.

A Gray Winter Day-MANIC PANIC

Paris like a lot of cities is dull and gray today. I have cabin fever and am counting the days until I can go on my next vacation. New York is one of my favorite desitinations and I'm always thrilled to see Tish and Snooky when I'm in the Big Apple.

Manic Panic opened in the late 70s on St. Mark's Place in NYC catering to the punk rock and alternative crowd. Tish and Snooky's store sold hair dye and cosmetics in virtually ever color imaginable and 30 years later the Manic Panic colors are showing up on runways and in boutiques world wide. These women are amazing. They have created a very successful company and their products are now sold in every corner of the world. True fashionistas, amazing business woman and did I mention that they sing pretty well? They were Blondie's original back up singers and it is always a thrill to see them on stage!

For more information on their incredible story and to buy some color to brighten up a gray day check out

The Past is the Present-TART VINTAGE SALON

I had the pleasure of meeting fellow vintage fashionista Naomi Thompson in London last year. A charming proper english girl who served me tea and biscuits in her vintage salon style apartment and showed me some of the gorgeous vintage dresses that she sells on her site www.vintagesecret.com
She has now taken her charm and love of vintage and blended it into TART one of London's best events for fashionistas.

Hosted at the decadent 40 Winks by the dandyesque David Carter, pin-up queen Fleur de Guerre and Naomi Thompson pictured above, Tart is the ultimate afternoon of naughty self indulgence, seductive style and decadent pampering. It has quickly established itself as one of London's must–do monthly events.

January's event includes cosmetics brand Benefit's Lisa Potter Dixon, Benefit's beauty guru and events manager who will to share her tips on how to create the perfect look for 2010.

Hendrick's cocktail mixing masterclass utilising the potent properties of the world’s
most unusual gin.

Fleur de Guerre the pin-up queen who will be launching a series of classes for
girls who have always dreamt of becoming 1940s silver screen vixens with expert advice on
vintage hair and make-up.

Katie Halford, lingerie designer and owner of What Katie Did, will be sharing her ‘stocking
secrets’ over the course of the afternoon (how to put them on, how to take them off and how
to hold them up when you’ve got them up..)

Also fashion and accessory designers who will be showcasing their work over the next few months include Uma Turan,Miss Magou, Jessica de Lotz, Laura Strand, Rachael Hannah, Tallulah Love, SVE, Nahoko Kojima and Ornella Iannuzzi.

Just Another Good Reason to Visit....VIONNET

Just another good reason to visit Paris...

Madeleine Vionnet, puriste de la mode
24 June 2009 - 31 January 2010

Les Arts Décoratifs is devoting a major exhibition to Madeleine Vionnet. In 1952, the couturière donated 200 dresses, 750 dress patterns and 75 photo albums to Les Arts Décoratifs. Selected from her major works between 1912 and 1939 and now restored with the aid of Natixis, this exceptional collection of avant-garde designs can at last be shown to the public. Madeleine Vionnet’s entire career was marked by her constant quest for freedom in extremely refined but unfettered designs close to antique drapery, which continue to fascinate couturiers such as Azzedine Alaia, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and John Galliano.
